Busy

Well, I haven't posted in a while (sorry!), but we've been busy having fun around here. I've really enjoyed having Will home from school and I've been busy keeping him busy! Will has to have something to do at all times - he's a very active little boy! I've been working hard to find things to do with them that don't cost money..... We've been visiting parks, the library, and doing normal weekly errands.

Every week I take the kids to the library. They LOVE the library and it's so much fun for me to take them. Will really wanted a library tote bag, so we started daily chores with him so he could earn money to buy a tote bag. (We "jacked" up his "allowance" so that he could earn it quickly). He brought his money to the librarian and asked her for a pink tote bag. She kindly told him they were out of pink (THANK YOU!) and he settled on green. Lauren was able to purchase a pink tote bag (maybe they got a new shipment in....) with the blessings of her brother. So, every week we take our tote bags full of our library books back to the library and the kids put them in the return chute (so much fun!). We then get to go pick out new books and Cd's to take home for the week. They love their little bags, too. Lauren always looks for her bag so that she can read her new books. Both of my kids are bookworms and they are constantly fighting each other for my lap.

We also purchased a bike trailer for our new bikes and we've taken the kids to the park and around town in their trailer. They fit comfortably in there and Joe pulls them around town. I've taken them out a couple of times and I'm thinking about taking the trailer to the grocery store to pick up those mid-week items (as long as it doesn't include milk!). The bike trailer is great and it gives me a chance to really use my bike during the week. I'm enjoying the outdoors with my kids and I'm getting some great exercise. The trailer weighs 26 pounds and my kids weigh 29 and 18.... you do the math! That's a lot of weight to pull up hills!

Will and Lauren have had a ball playing in the backyard this summer, too. We've put out the sprinkler and the baby pool for them to play with on hot days. Will absolutely loves playing in the water and Lauren isn't as enthusiastic about it....we'll have to give her some time to get used to it! Will loves to chase Mollie with the hose and they both end up soaking wet. Lauren is starting to enjoy swinging and Will is working on how to "pump." That will be a wonderful day - he loves to swing and is constantly asking me to push him (for hours on end!). Lauren can climb to the top of the slide and she loves to slide down (with help). We still play out front with our neighbors - riding bikes, riding scooters, digging in the dirt, looking for worms, drawing with sidewalk chalk, playing ball, etc.

It's looking like we're going to have a great summer - a busy summer! I'll post some pictures later... it's off to bed.

I love to dance

Will and Lauren love to listen to Laurie Berkner. Our great friends, the Stewarts, gave Will the DVD for his 3rd birthday and he's been hooked ever since! We've been checking out Laurie Berkner music from the library!! It's great that they have her CD's and we can check them out for a month or so and then move on to a new CD! This song is from "Buzz, Buzz." Will loves the story of the three little pigs on this CD! Laurie Berkner has new and "traditional" song on her CD's. They're great!! Lauren's favorite songs are "We are the Dinosaurs" because she loves to stomp around and roar, and Buzz, Buzz because she loves to BZZZZ. Enjoy their dancing!

It's always more fun to dance with a turkey baster... though I had to cut the video short to return the turkey baster to it's drawer in the kitchen....

Celebration Day

Today Will had his Celebration Day at Pre-School. It was like his party days - each little group had their own Celebration Time. They sang a couple of songs and then each child got a little certificate for attending school. It was a great little time and we are so proud of Will. He also got his progress report today and his teacher commented that he was "so great at playing with other children and learning to share and take turns." She also commented that "He is so smart, sweet, and helpful." We are so proud of our little (big) boy Will with his certificate. (This is before the cookies....)Will and his buddy Carson.

Happy Birthday (sort of)

Will celebrated his birthday at school today. His preschool celebrates all of the children's birthdays sometime during the year. Will's birthday is in June, so he got to celebrate his birthday today!! Each child gets to bring in a birthday snack and all of the kids sing Happy Birthday. He wanted me to make ball cookies (specifically soccer, baseball, football, and basketball. I passed on the soccer balls.....) for his class to eat for snack. We made the cookies on Mother's Day. He's quite a cook.... Here's a picture of our "birthday" boy.

15 Months

Lauren had her 15 month appointment today. It's hard to believe that our baby is already a toddler. Here are her stats:

Weight: 17 lbs 15 oz
Height: 30 3/4 inches
She's in the 1% for weight and the 34% for height - which is about where Will stays. The doctor was concerned about her weight, but was "okay with it" because Will is steadily in the 1-2% also. He suggested some food options, which we already have been doing.

One of Lauren's favorite things to do is read. I think it has something to do with her age. They just want to soak in tons of information and they love to learn. She can be seen reading books by herself, and if you happen to walk by she'll want you to sit down for a story. My favorite thing is when she's in her room reading her books (and she's sitting in the middle of a book pile). She'll come wandering down the hallway with a book in her hands and give it to me (or Joe). She'll then turn around and start backing in to sit in your lap (even if you're standing... you have to hurry up and sit down!). She also gets jealous when Will reads books with me and she's even tried to pull him out of my lap so that she can sit there. I guess I have two readers on my hands! Lauren loves to color. She uses crayons, markers, and SIDEWALK CHALK. She loves to use sidewalk chalk when we're outside. She'll go into the garage and come out with the little container of chalk. She wanders around the yard drawing on everything from the trees to the cars.

She's not talking a whole bunch, but that's typical for a second child. She knows a lot of animal sounds and she loves to "woof" at dogs, "ack" at ducks, "moooo" at cows (in books), "kiss" at fish, and growl at any other animal. She loves her Daddy and she gets so excited when he comes home from work. She'll stand at the garage door and try to open it and say, "Da-ddy." She'll say "Ma-ma" when she wants me to hold her. Her favorite thing to say is "isshh" (which we think is "this") and she'll point to something. Lauren is in love with shoes (or shhushh) and she loves to put them on and take them off!

She is such a sweet little girl and we just love her so much. She is a true joy to be around and she is always SO HAPPY. She's been feeling a bit under the weather recently, but she still has a smile on her face. She loves to play and her new found accomplishments (walking, talking, running, climbing) are just so exciting to her! My grandpa nicknamed her "smiley" and that is a very appropriate name for her.

Mickey Ice Cream Cones

Will went to the grocery store with me on Sunday. He loves to go to the grocery store to help me pick out snacks and special treats. I thought it would be fun to get ice cream cones and Disney makes some really cute little mini ice cream cones. I asked Will if he would like the mini ice cream cones and he said, "No, Mommy. Those aren't Minnie, they're Mickey." The packaging had a picture of Mickey Mouse on the front. Both of the kids really enjoyed their Mickey Ice Cream Cones (as they are now called....) I am so glad that it is finally warm around here and I really hope the warmth stays. Lauren eating her Mickey Ice Cream Cone. She really enjoyed the cone and it was the perfect size for her!
Will got two Mickey Ice Cream Cones because he's so BIG. Actually, he really is looking older these days. He's almost FOUR! Wow, time sure flies!Lauren LOVES her baby doll stroller, though she usually doesn't push her baby doll around. She prefers to hold Baby Doll and she likes to put other random things in the stroller.
