Library

Library time is a very big part of Will's life. Being a "retired" teacher, I feel it is so important for Will to learn to sit and listen to a story and to be part of a group. He loves to go to storytime and he has learned so many things. He picks up on the songs and rhymes so quickly and he loves to practice them at home. If he didn't attend storytime, I don't think he would know so many little kid songs and rhymes. He has learned to love his teachers, Miss Kelly and Miss Heather, though he was too shy to sit with them alone for his pictures!

Will has met a new friend at storytime. His name is Jack and he is the youngest member of the group. Jack started attending storytime when he was three weeks old. Jack's mommy, Rebekah, worked with Joe at Lexnet before she decided to stay home with Jack. Jack loves coming to storytime and Will is starting to notice him a little bit. Sometimes Jack sleeps through storytime, but sometimes he is awake. He loves all of the songs and the books.
Enjoy the pictures!

Just having fun

Will is a great player - he will entertain himself for long stretches of time. One of his favorite toys is the Fisher Price Little People Farm. He loves all animals and he likes to take care of his farm animals. They always need to get a drink from the well and eat some "bapples" from the trough. He takes care to put them to bed in the correct place (every animal has a spot, even the added animals he got for Christmas from Cousin Bradley). Mommy tried to put some animals to sleep one night and was corrected in some of their locations. He calls all of the animals by the sound they make, except for the duck, turkey, and rabbit. He jumps for the rabbit, he actually calls the duck by name, and the poor turkey doesn't make a sound, motion, or have a name.

Will also loves to play with trains. He always plays at the train table when we go to the library for storytime. He also loves to play with the Thomas tables at the local bookstores and Toys R Us. Frequently Joe and I feel sorry for Will because he gets picked on at the public train tables. He is usually the youngest one there and some of the big kids like to boss him around. He has learned the ever exciting phrase, "NO, MINE!" from his outings to the various train tables. Of course he won't use this phrase in public - just at home to poor little Ella. Today Will and I went to Toys R Us to play with the train tables while Daddy was playing the bass at church. There was a very polite three year old boy there and they played so well together. It was a great experience. Will wanted to take home a train, so we used our gift card to buy Gordon (because he's blue and everything in Will's life is blue - we have to drink from the blue cup, eat on the blue plate, and wear all of the blue clothes...) We brought Gordon home and introduced him to James and Bertie. Bertie was a Christmas present from Will's buddy Nathan and James was bought one day when everyone kept taking Will's trains and he was getting upset. Plus, Bertie needed a pal at home. In the picture you can see that Will is saying "choo choo."

Well, that's enough about Will's adventures today. He is down for his long nap and I have chores to complete. Joe is at the gym for his triathlon training. I don't envy him!

Early Monday

Joe is currently training for a sprint triathlon at our gym here in town. He leaves for the gym around 6:30 every morning so that he can workout before work. Will usually sleeps through the commotion, but Mondays are always different. Our trash pickup is on Monday mornings..... early Monday morning. They usually pick up the trash around 6:00 (sometimes earlier). It wouldn't be so bad if we just lived on a normal street, but we live on a court of 8 houses. Most of the garbage trucks here in Lexington have the little trash can grabbing arm that grabs the trash can and dumps in into the truck. The poor truck driver has to go into reverse MANY times to make the rounds on our street. Will calls the trash trucks "beep beeps" because of the noise they make in reverse. So at 6:00 Monday morning everyone on our street is WIDE awake and wishing the trash pickup was a little later.
So, this morning Will was awake in his crib. He was playing his aquarium and trying to go back to sleep. He wasn't crying, but I could hear him moving around a lot. After a couple rounds of the aquarium, he started calling for me. I went into his room and he looked so sleepy. I picked him up and ran back to the warmth of my bed. He cuddled with me (after making sure Ella was in bed) and fell asleep. I laid down next to him. He hasn't slept in our bed since he was a little baby and it was nice to have him so close. The phone rang (grandma called on her way to MOPS) and I left the room. Will was asleep at the head of the bed and Ella was at the foot of the bed (under the covers, of course!). When I came back into the room, this is what I found. Ella had decided she was suppose to take care of Will. Too cute!

Snow!

Last night we got our first real snow of the year. We've been waiting for the snow to come so Will could experience playing in the snow. Unfortunatley Joe has National Guard duty this week, so no sledding for Will. I did bundle him up (and boy did that take forever!) and we went out to play in the snow. Will loves to wear his mittens, so he was very excited. We used the Pepper snow suit and off we went! Will was a little apprehensive at first, but then he dove right in. He loved to pick up the snow and throw it around. It was so much fun to watch Ella run around like a crazy dog, too. He fussed a little when I wouldn't let him go down the slide, but I just didn't want to go there. We went out front and Will helped mommy shovel the driveway and the sidewalk. He is such a big helper. Our outing ended in tears when Will realized that he was cold and wet. We went inside and warmed up (not to a fire, because Joe is gone ...) to the heater! Will is happy and content to be inside and he's back to playing with all of his toys. What a fun day in the snow!

Music and Daddy

My daddy loves music. He plays many instruments and I love to watch and listen to him play. Last night he was tuning his bass guitar. I thought it was so interesting. I kept playing with different knobs and buttons on his tuner. It was really fun. Daddy let me play his bass guitar, too. I like to try to be like my daddy, so it was tons of fun! My mommy likes to take pictures of everything.... so here's a picture of me and my daddy.

Haircut

Will had his first haircut at 6 weeks - I just couldn't stand having his hair long on his ears and his neck. My hairdresser cut his hair for me for a while, until Joe decided that he was going to cut Will's hair. At first, Joe just used the clippers and Will always had a buzz cut. Recently, Joe has decided to be daring and he has been using the scissors along with the clippers. Last night we decided to clip all of his hair off again. I think he looks so cute with his short hair. I think it makes his beautiful blue eyes stand out even more! He still has thin hair on top and so it looks a little shorter than it is, but I guess his hair will get a little thicker as he gets older. I no longer have to worry about Will's bedhead - it always looks perfect!

Play Date

Today Will had a play date with his buddy Nathan. We met Nathan at Storytime at the local library and the boys have been buddies ever since. Janie and I attend MOPS together on the second and fourth Fridays of the month and so we like to get the boys together on the "off" weeks. The boys enjoy the time to play together and the mommies enjoy being able to talk to another adult. The boys love to play with the basketball hoops, trucks, and ride on toys. It's amazing how much fun other peoples toys can be - even if they're the same ones that you have at home. We always eat lunch together - the boys always have grilled cheese and apple sauce. Janie and I take the time to make something creative and then we share the recipe. It's always nice to have a new recipe to share with the family the next week.

Will usually falls asleep on the way home from his play dates..... Here's a picture of him asleep in the car. He has been into reading Goodnight Moon the past couple of days. He loves to find the mouse on the color pages. He has also discovered the moon at night, so he likes to point out the moon in all of his books. This one is special because there is a moon on almost every page!
